Ya se conocen los ganadores de los Drama Desk Awards 2023, que premian la excelencia artística en Broadway, Off-Broadway y Off-Off-Broadway. Los ganadores recibirán sus premios en una ceremonia celebrada el 6 de junio en Sardi’s y producida por Staci Levine/Groundswell Theatricals.
Como se anunció anteriormente, este es el primer año en que las categorías de interpretación no tienen género. Como resultado, se eligieron dos ganadores en cada una de esas cuatro categorías.
“Some Like It Hot” recibió ocho premios Drama Desks, entre ellos el de Mejor Musical, Mejor Interpretación Principal en un Musical para la estrella J. Harrison Ghee, Mejor Interpretación Principal en un Musical para Kevin Del Aguila, Mejor Coreografía para Casey Nicholaw, Mejor Letra para Scott Wittman y Marc Shaiman, Mejor Libro de un Musical para Matthew López y Amber Ruffin, Mejor Orquestación para Charlie Rosen y Bryan Carter y Mejor Diseño de Vestuario de un Musical para Gregg Barnes.
“Life of Pi” fue la obra de Broadway más galardonada, con los premios a la mejor dirección teatral para Max Webster, al mejor diseño escénico para Tim Hatley, al mejor diseño de proyección y vídeo para Andrzej Goulding y al mejor diseño de marionetas para Nick Barnes y Finn Caldwell.
“Shucked”, que lideró todas las producciones con 12 nominaciones, ganó sólo dos premios, entre ellos el de interpretación destacada en un musical para Alex Newell y el de música destacada para Brandy Clark y Shane McAnally.
Por primera vez, las categorías de interpretación no tenían género y cada una de ellas declaró dos ganadores.
También cabe destacar que la estrella de “Prima Facie”, Jodi Comer, ganó el premio a la Mejor Actuación Solista, una categoría que no existe en los premios Tony, en los que está nominada a la Mejor Actuación de Actriz Principal de Teatro.
Además de la Actuación Solista Sobresaliente, los Drama Desk incluyen otras categorías que no existen en los Premios Tony, como Peluca y Pelo Sobresalientes, que recayó en Mia M. Neal por “Ain’t No Mo'”.
El Drama Desk está dirigido por los copresidentes David Barbour y Charles Wright. El comité de nominaciones 2022-2023 incluye a Martha Wade Steketee, Linda Armstrong, Dan Dinero, Peter Filichia, Kenji Fujishima, Margaret Hall y Wright.
